Education & Resources
Planned Parenthood Health Systems, Inc. is a private, non-profit community agency that is committed to providing confidential, affordable reproductive health care for women, men and teens in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.
Sexuality education includes sex, but also the roles, behaviors and values people associate with being a man or a woman. Sexuality is both physical and emotional. You can see it in everything we do; the clothes we wear, the way we walk, the way we talk, and how we show affection.
Planned Parenthood Health Systems strongly believes that sexuality education begins in the home and that a parent is a child’s most important educator. Planned Parenthood believes that everyone, regardless of age, is entitled to accurate information regarding sexuality at an appropriate level.

Adolescent Parenting Program (APP)
Planned Parenthood Health Systems implements two APP programs, one located in Burgaw, NC and the other located in Wilmington, NC. Both programs provide support for parenting teenagers that are 17 years old or younger. The goals are for the parents to remain in school, graduate from high school and delay a second pregnancy.
Adult mentors are needed in New Hanover and Pender counties. Adolescent Parenting Program (APP), which has offices in Burgaw, NC and Wilmington, NC, needs volunteers! Volunteers must be 21 years of age, have a telephone and transportation, and be a high school graduate. Volunteers must commit four hours per month for one year to a teen parent and will work one-on-one with a teen parent. Duties include serving as a positive role model, friend and advocate, helping with transportation, attending monthly peer group meetings with the teen, and encouraging good parenting skills, school attendance and responsible sexuality. E-mail education@pphsinc.org if you can help.
