Parenting and Family Support Organizations
Parents as Teachers (PAT) is an international early childhood parent education and family support program serving families throughout pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten, usually age 5. The program is designed to enhance child development and school achievement through parent education accessible to all families. It is a universal access model. The Parents as Teachers National Center, Inc. (PATNC) develops curricula, trains early childhood professionals, and certifies parent educators to work with parents to provide them with parenting support and information on their developing child.

Communities in Schools North Carolina is part of the nation’s largest stay-in school network, serving just over one million youth in 154 communities across the United States. CIS is providing the link between teachers and the community – by bringing caring adults into the schools and community sites to meet children’s needs. This link gives children the much-needed opportunity to focus on learning and their future.

Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina is the only statewide, nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect in all its forms. It is the NC state chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America with a thriving statewide Prevention Network. Prevent Child Abuse NC's Prevention Network consists of over 200 organizations and volunteers working to implement critical child abuse prevention programs in their local communities.

Talking With Kids About Tough Issues is a national initiative by Children Now and the Kaiser Family Foundation to encourage parents to talk with their children earlier and more often about tough issues like sex, HIV/AIDS, violence, alcohol, and drug abuse.
